If you are human you have probably procrastinated. No matter how successful or motivated a person may be, there will come a time when procrastination hits and they cannot get anything done.
Obviously, if you want to be a good leader and a successful business owner, for example, then procrastination is far from ideal – you need to be able to rehab.y get things done when they need to, which is why I’ve put together some top tips to help you beat procrastination right now.
Create more effective to-do lists
If you want to avoid the draw of procrad6ination, then one thing you can do is to ensure that your to-do lists are set up to motivate you. There are a few ways you can do this, from starting the day with a simple task to ease you into your work to starting with the hardest task first so that the rest of your day goes well, but perhaps, the best way to ensure procrastination is not a problem is to create a daily to-do list with 1 major task, 3 medium-sized tasks and 5 smaller ones. Why? Because then, depending on your motivation levels there will always be at least one task you feel confident in addressing, and once you get started, chances are you will tick a few more off too.
Do it for 60-seconds
Whether you need to study for your ASFA’s yoga certification so you can finally launch your own business or you need to process your emails to ensure you stay on top of your admin, make a rule where you will work for 60 seconds and, if after that time, you really do not want to continue, you can stop. This works because most of us can do anything for 60 seconds, no matter how much we are not feeling it, and once we have gotten started it is often the case that we are motivated to continue, which means chances are you will end p working for far longer than a single minute. If you have employees who are struggling with a task, this is often the best way to get them moving on it too.
Work in batches
Batching like tasks together is another good way to stop procrastinating and get more done. So, for example, instead of replying to email queries throughout the day, pencil in an hour or two where that is all you do, Do the same for conference calls, accounting, and whatever else you need to do day-to-day and you will find it much easier to stay on task when you are not constantly switching between different areas of your work or business. It may sound overly simple, but it can really work.
There will be times when you want to procrastinate, but if you can put the above ideas into action, chances are you will be able to leave procrastination behind and get on with those important tasks that allow you to be a better leader and a more effective entrepreneur.
